Party all the time…

Last night I was watching ‘48 hours’ (on laserdisc) with my girl, eating half a chicken with french fries and we got into talking about Eddie Murphy’s “Party All the Time” video, which really was the only Eddie Murphy song I was familiar with. Personally, I don’t even think it’s a bad song, definitely not the #7 worst song of all time (according to VH1’s “50 Worst Songs of All Time”), I could name 50 songs on the radio right now that are much harder to listen to. I actually think it’s a very good song as far as pop-music goes. I mean, it was catchy and about some real shit: His girl just wanted to party all the time. That’s a problem. Who hasn’t had a girl or two that just partied all the time? You need to get rid of those. That’s how diseases are spread. So anyway, I was just gonna post the video for that song and call it a day, but then I thought, “Why not do some research? Maybe I’ll find something more interesting.” And I did.
First of all I didn’t know Eddie was from Brooklyn. I also didn’t know he had a song featuring Shabba Ranks, “I Was a King” in 1993 on Motown. Another thing I didn’t know was that he had a single titled “Put Your Mouth on Me” which came out on Columbia in 1989. The title sounded very promising, but the song was not as sleazy as I hoped. I guess you kinda gotta picture him cruising Santa Monica Boulevard looking for tranny hookers, bumping this. There ya go.

Above is the original “Party All the Time” video, which I found pretty amusing. Below is a group Sharam’s spoof on it which I thought was pretty funny, especially the part where Rick James goes, “Hey Eddie, put your phones on man.”
